Helicobacter species pylori represent one of the medically prominent and most common infections in the world. Contamination with this microbe has set as a causal factor in the development of gastritis, peptic ulcer, and gastric neoplasia. Consequently, prompt diagnosis is essential. Therefore, regarding all facts about the strong correlation between H. pylori and different upper gastrointestinal lesions, it is very crucial to specify the presence of this bacteria in gastric biopsy reports as it has an important role in the therapeutic implications too. Since, over years pathologists have sought different reliable methods for detecting H. pylori in biopsy specimens, including special stains, immunohistochemistry (IHC), polymerase chain reaction (PCR), and lately, in situ hybridization.

The discovery of Helicobacter pylori was made by Barry Marshall at the Royal Perth Hospital in Western Australia in collaboration with Robin Warren. Warren, a histopathologist, was investigating a bacterium which he had observed on gastric biopsies in 1979.H. pylori associated gastritis is today recognized as the major cause of duodenal and gastric ulcers, gastric adenocarcinoma and mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma. This organism did not resemble any known species, either in morphology or biochemistry. It was cultured using isolation techniques for Campylobacter. Thus, initially it was named Campylobacter pyloridis. The name was grammatically corrected to Campylobacter pylori. Helicobacter pylori-associated gastritis is today recognized as the major cause of duodenal and gastric ulcers, gastric adenocarcinoma and mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma.

Despite the progress in control of the microbial agents of disease, they remain great and unpredictable threat to health and science throughout the world and antimicrobial drug resistance also becomes widely distributed. In this book one can find: Helicobacter pylori introduction, history, basic morphology, pathogenicity, internal organization and invitro effects of antimicrobial, identification of H.pylori, specimens, microscopy, growth, atmosphere for culture, selective, non selective media, transportation, handling of biopsies, biochemical characteristics, source of infection, animals and water as potential source and transmission, modification media to become rapid, selective and differential media for H.pylori, moringa and ginger history classification, phytochemistry, medicinal uses and pharmacological properties.
